Request for Applications: Medicaid Health-Related Social Needs Implementation Learning Series

Many state Medicaid agencies are pursuing new strategies to address the health-related social needs (HRSN) of the individuals and families they serve. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services recently issued guidance to states on ways to finance select HRSN activities using Section 1115 demonstrations and in lieu of services. This unique policy window provides unprecedented opportunities for states to advance HRSN strategies within Medicaid and promote health equity for communities that have been historically marginalized.

With support from the Kaiser Permanente National Community Benefit Fund at The East Bay Community Foundation, the Center for Health Care Strategies (CHCS) is launching a 12-month Medicaid Health-Related Social Needs Implementation Learning Series for state Medicaid officials and teams to uncover early lessons, best practices, and potential pitfalls related to this work. In partnership with HealthBegins and the Social Interventions Research and Evaluation Network (SIREN), CHCS will support up to nine Medicaid agencies developing, implementing, or refining HRSN initiatives. Selected states will participate in peer-to-peer information sharing and learning opportunities to advance HRSN and health equity policy and implementation goals.

States, commonwealths, and territories looking for timely support for high-impact initiatives to address HRSN and advance health equity are encouraged to apply. Applications are due January 23.

Prospective applicants can join a December 15 information session, 1:00 - 2:00 pm ET, to learn more about this new opportunity for Medicaid agencies.
