Maryland requires the use of social workers as case managers in therapeutic foster care settings. I'm interested in identifying states that allow disciplines other than social work in their child welfare settings, particularly therapeutic foster care.

Our members report significantly longer vacancies for hiring social workers than counseling disciplines, which is already at 125 days, as well as greater salary escalation for social workers. As a result, we are taking a look again at addressing workforce requirements, and it would be helpful to better understand what other states allow in this area.

As always, thank you in advance for any assistance!

    Hi Shannon,

California allows other master's level staff to provide case management and other services in TFC.

    Happy to discuss further.

    Thanks,

    Chris
