    Dear Association Executives - Attached and below from HHS' Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), please find information on and links to a series of informative webinars SAMHSA is continuing to put on this month on topics of interest, including 988 and stigma.     Join Mental Health Awareness Month Webinars

    The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Office of Public and Indian Housing and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) are teaming up to present a series of free webinars this May to celebrate National Mental Health Awareness Month!

     

    The next webinar, 988 – What's on the Horizon?, will take place Wednesday, May 11, from 1:00 – 2:00 PM ET (Access Code: 8477433#). SAMHSA and HUD will introduce SAMHSA's new 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. The webinar will also address suicide prevention for youth and the BIPOC community, in addition to touching on substance use.

    SAMHSA's Assistant Secretary for Mental Health and Substance Use, Dr. Miriam E. Delphin-Rittmon, and HUD's Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Office of Public Housing Investments, Mr. Robert Mulderig, M.B.A., will speak, followed by the White House's Senior Advisor for Public Health on the Domestic Policy Council, Dr. Sejal Hathi, who will present introductory remarks. Dr. Richard McKeon, Branch Chief of SAMHSA's Suicide Prevention Branch, will deliver the keynote speech. Dr. Mary Roary, Director of SAMHSA's Office of Behavioral Health Equity, will moderate.

    The target audience for these webinars is HUD and SAMHSA staff, grantees, partners, and stakeholders, as well as HUD residents. After the presentations, there will be time for questions and answers with the speakers.

     

     

    Webinar 3: Get Help – Reducing Stigma Associated with Mental Health

    May 18, 2022

    SAMHSA and HUD will focus on reducing stigma associated with mental health, to encourage those with potential mental health issues to seek professional help. This webinar will also concentrate on the BIPOC community, addressing stigma specific to these populations.

    Webinar 4: Now What? – Mental Health Issues in Post-COVID America

    May 25, 2022

    SAMHSA and HUD will examine how to address mental health issues in post-COVID America. Besides the physical toll the pandemic took on Americans, it has also greatly affected our nation's mental health. This webinar will discuss how to handle and move past multiple co-occurring pandemics, using a mental health focus on substance use disorder, housing, work, education, and transportation, among other relevant topics.
