Dear Association Executives - We have a new topic has been bubbling up and we would like to seek your feedback/questions. As you know, suicidal ideation and deaths from suicides in our nation are increasing. It is one of the leading causes of death in our country. Suicide rate for veterans is 1.5 times higher than general population and just recently, we have seen research around active military suicide rates being at all-time high in 2021.
If active or reserve military members want to see a mental health and substance use treatment provider in their community, that provider must be TRICARE authorized. We have heard that the process of becoming an authorized TRICARE provider is cumbersome and discouraging. So, we made some contacts at SAMHSA and through our initial conversations, they have agreed to join us via a webinar where they can address the process related questions.
We understand that your members may have embarked on this process but never went through fully, or are currently a TRICARE Provider and may have concerns/issues.
What questions would you like the federal partners to address around become a TRICARE provider? Please share them here (or email Neal or me at MeghnaP@thenationalcouncil.org) by August 5th.
