Hello,
I am the CMO at Valley Cities Behavioral Health Care, serving the communities of Seattle/King County. We've been able to implement and sustain an Evidence Based staged approach to treating PTSD. We have adopted the widely accepted staged approach to treating PTSD:
Stage 1 - Safety and Stabilization
Stage 2 - Trauma Memory Processing
We utilize DBT (both individual and group) for stage 1, to help give clients the emotion regulation skills to tolerate stage 2, and EMDR for stage 2 (as a trauma memory processing treatment that is a top tier treatment but is relatively easier for clients to tolerate). We've been able to sustain these programs by offering annual trainings in conducting DBT and EMDR, and supporting consultation groups for therapists that are practicing these treatments. We have trained internal trainers to provide the annual DBT training (both for teens and adults) and EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Program (
www.emdrhap.org/content/) for our annual EMDR trainings. Lots of great stories of clients recovering from severe trauma! We are implementing the PCL-5 Abbreviated and the Difficulties in Emotional Regulation Scale - Short Version (DERS-SF) to evaluate outcomes for the EMDR and DBT programs respectively, so hopefully soon we'll have the data to back up the stories.
