    Good afternoon,

Yesterday afternoon, the National Council and NASMHPD co-hosted an event for state behavioral health commissioners and their teams leading states' work on mental health and substance use. Attendees heard from three state commissioners who have pioneered the CCBHC model: New York and Nevada as part of the CCBHC Medicaid demonstration, and Texas independently using a waiver approach.

I've attached the presenters' slides for you all. There were a lot of great takeaways, but here are a few that I wanted to share: 1) Each state eliminated waitlists for services within a few years of initiating their CCBHC work. 2) Each state was able to leverage the model to reach underserved populations, with improvements in children's services frequently mentioned as a key advancement. 3) There are many successful approaches to establishing CCBHCs within Medicaid, as exemplified by each state's unique path-yet, no matter the approach, each state pointed out the significant return on their investment in CCBHCs.

We had over 60 attendees representing 21 states (AR, CA, DC, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, ME, MI, MN, NC, NE, NJ, NV, NY, OH, TX, VA, WA, WV). We will be following up separately with those of you in these states to let you know who attended and discuss next steps. In the meantime, our team would be happy to connect with commissioners or other state officials in any state not represented here – just let me know.

Thank you and enjoy your weekend!

So excited that Maine was in the meeting. We are very interested in moving this forward in Maine. Looking forward to next steps and circling back with my state officials to discuss.

    Thanks!
