On behalf of the O'Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law at the Georgetown University Law Center, The Pew Charitable Trusts, and the Legislative Analysis and Public Policy Association, thank you to those who have already registered for our upcoming virtual convening, titled "Opioid Litigation Summit: Maximizing the Impact of Settlements to Address the Opioid Epidemic."
For those who have not yet registered, the link for registration is available here. Please also see updated materials attached.
This Summit will promote interactive dialogue and identify collaborative strategies to optimize the design and impact of prescription opiate litigation settlements. For this purpose, we have invited participants with expertise that cut across various disciplines and perspectives. We strongly encourage participants to engage during the Q&A sessions in each panel, as well as during the two interactive visioning discussions, so that we can conclude this Summit with actionable strategies going forward.
Following the Summit, we will produce an "After-Action Report" which will outline the themes discussed and identify strategies and tools needed to maximize the impact of settlements to address the overdose crisis.
One specific tool we will introduce is a model state law titled the "Model Opioid Litigation Proceeds Act," which was developed by the O'Neill Institute, the Legislative Analysis and Public Policy Association, the Center for U.S. Policy, and Brown & Weinraub, PLLC, with the help of several distinguished peer reviewers who provided their expertise, guidance, and suggestions. A working draft of the model law is attached for review (not for distribution). We encourage you to take a look at the model law prior to next Friday, as it will be updated based on the discussion and feedback received during the Summit and finalized shortly.
We are looking forward to a productive and engaging few days and look forward to seeing you on Friday.
Best,
