  • 1.  How to reach vulnerable populations

    Posted 04-01-2020 14:36

    Good afternoon,

During this period of social distancing and remote working, have any of you come up with solutions to reach some of your more vulnerable populations who do not have access to telehealth, and how have limited/no access to telephone?

    Thanks,

    Hello,

I haven't had this issue just yet, but I suspect that I will. We have been trying to brainstorm and although not the most effective, we thought of potentially typing up the info we would like to share/educate on or finding resources online that you can mail to the patient via snail mail? Like I said, still not sure how effective, but could be better than nothing? Obviously the patient has to be able to read, but just one option!

Please share if you find any other suggestions – thanks!!

    Hi there!

I'm a prevention coordinator in Utah and our community coalitions partnered with school districts to send information, fun activity ideas and tons of online resources in the food packs being distributed for students while the schools are closed.  There are also mobile apps that can do video conferencing, and even though some people don't have internet/computer access at home, most have phones with data. Inviting others to meet via online platforms is a way to check on them regardless of where they are.  I realize there are limits, but just some ideas!

Be safe and well, and good luck!

    Hi Kelly,

Some of our providers have purchased phones for clients - we are still waiting to hear if they can do budget modifications to cover the costs.

NJAMHAA also belongs to a Coalition of provider and consumer advocacy groups that has just drafted a letter to Lifeline providers in our state, with the Department of Human Services copied, asking for streamlined applications for phones, including replacement phones, unlimited minutes and increased data.  We anticipate the State will also be writing to the FCC with a similar request, and we remain hopeful we might get a mandate from our Governor.

Here in NJ, all Medicaid services can be done via audio only - i know that may vary by state.

Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Gotomeetings are some good platforms to reach people while in their homes.  You can do group discussions and video conferencing.

    Hi All,

We are mailing our clients that do not have phones, sending resources related to Covid 19, as well as coping, stress reduction etc. We are also asking them to call us when they do have access to a phone and we will work with them on what they need when the call in. Also starting education/activity groups through Zoom for anyone in our communities to join.

    Thanks,
