    Good afternoon,

For those that have statewide MHFA initiatives, how is it funded and who oversees the initiative?

    Best,
    Ruby

    Ruby,
Our state initiative (Texas) is funded through Texas Health and Human Services/Medical & Social Services division.
The Behavioral Health Systems Training Coordinator oversees the funding.

I don't oversee a state funded initiative but have, as a result of a SAMHSA AWARE grant obtained funding to roll out YMHFA across 13 counties as part of our DSRIP funding project to support prevention/youth.   I also started 4 years ago a regional group to communicate with other instructors as a means to bridge collaboration and help others doing YMHFA.  I have found people get trained as instructors but then find the commitment and work to sustain it to be challenging to continue.

    Good Afternoon Ruby!

In Southwest Ohio...The agency I work for was initially responsible for only our Local/ Montgomery County Ohio MHFA Initiative, and in the past 4 years that has expanded into assisting other counties with theirs, and now managing a State initiative.  The funding for each level has been a little bit different.  I will try to break it down:

    1. County wide : MHFA has been a primary initiative with my agency MC ADAMHS for 4 years now, and funding was first from our Human Services Levy dollars that were allocated specifically for MHFA training, and occasional community in-kind donations.
    2. This County initiative is now funded not only by our generous Levy dollars, but also local dollars and SAMHSA funding as recipients of both an AWARE-C grant (2015-2018) & MHAT funding (2018-2021).
    3. Many of the Boards in our region are assembling/partnering to offer MHFA across county lines for a Regional Engagement, and this initiative is being funded through Levy dollars, local County Board contributions, non-profit contributions as well as combined State grant dollars.
    4.  Currently there is a State Initiative from the Ohio Association of Community Behavioral Health that the MC ADAMHS Board and I are assisting in the planning for (and potentially being one of the NT's for) State-wide MHFA Instructor Training's. The funding for this is a combination of Federal, State and local dollars (County Boards, State Agencies)

    I hope this is helpful!
