Here at our 24 hour licensed residential facility in Kansas, we sometimes get terrible weather in winter, which causes our entire organization to declare an inclement weather day for staff. While this works out for staff who work 8-5 Monday through Friday in our outpatient departments, it affects our 24 hour facility differently, as we cannot close. Currently we do not have a specific policy for our program, just the agency-wide policy, but we have started the process of developing a policy for our department.  I am wondering how other similarly staffed 24 hour facilities handle their inclement weather and attendance? Do you all have policies in place specifically for 24 hour facilities?

Recently I inquired about my initial questions below and got some great feedback. I now have another question related to staffing. For those of you that have 24 hour facilities, do you all have 24/7 supervision with supervisors on site? If so, how do you structure their work schedule? Is it a combination of overlapping schedules, or is there a middle person, such as a lead staff of the front line staff, who would have limited authority? How we staff our 3 supervisors is as follows: The 3 of us work four 10 hour days, with the Clinical Site Manager working a more traditional M-F 8-5 time. The supervisors have the following schedules:

    Myself: Monday – Thursday 0530 AM – 4pm

    PM Supervisor: Thursday – Sunday 1100 AM – 10PM

Overnight Supervisor: Friday – Monday from Midnight – 1000 AM

As you can see, there is some slight overlap, but that leaves larger gaps Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday when I leave,  until I return the following mornings. We have another supervisor position in our budget, but wanted to see how you all structure your supervisory staff of frontline program staff within your 24 hour facilities.
