While we have not encountered the surge yet in Iowa, we are preparing.  I am interested in learning from others how you have addressed the anxiety, depression, uncertainty, paranoia, PTSD symptoms that we anticipate seeing in staff in both inpatient and outpatient settings.  Typical debriefings do not seem appropriate nor do intrusive check ins with units, departments, staff.  We are providing information on stress, encouraging people to take care of themselves, check in with co workers, etc. but wondered if others have used or modified any techniques to proactively address these potential issues with staff.  Crisis management briefings that were used during 911 may hold some promise but open to anything that anyone has learned or done this far.

    Thanks.

    Hello.

In Missouri we utilize the myStrength platform https://mystrength.com/. My organization contracts with myStrength on behalf of our members. The platform is always available to our members' staff and consumers. We expanded our contract during the pandemic to offer access to law enforcement and first responders (informed through our state's CIT councils), as well as hospital and primary care providers (informed through the state's hospital, rural health, and primary care associations).

We are actively working on strategies here in Pennsylvania-we are working on virtual morning meditation/exercise, regular updates to all staff (currently written but will be going to video), virtual chats with remote staff, etc.  I think also sharing positive updates keeps morale up.  Collaborative outreach this week saved a guy who is real high risk.  Sharing stories like this make staff feel that their efforts have meaning.  We have also all been participating in the Light the Night Initiative for essential personnel-there is a FB group devoted to this-I believe it is National.  Of course, we too are always looking for new ideas.

All, our adult and children group homes are requiring staff twice as long with schools and day treatment. Our costs have doubled. We were at break even before the epidemic and are now hemorrhaging money. The state is telling us they can't pay for anything but treatment per CMS. Are any other states enhancing reimbursement for group homes to keep them open during this? Stay safe!
