In Massachusetts, we have a very robust system of crisis response for individuals in mental health crisis that are covered by public insurance programs, but severely lacks when it comes to commercial insurance coverage.

Understandably, law enforcement, schools and other community members don't always use the mental health crisis system because they don't know the individual's insurance status and shouldn't have to in order to get access.  Our providers generally eat the cost of providing these services.

My question for other states is: Do you offer specific mental health crisis services?  Are commercial insurers required to pay for this service?  Do you serve individuals with commercial insurance?  Do providers just eat the cost?

In Florida Mobil Crises services are funded through state appropriation through the Managing Entities who are responsible for assuring safety net services regardless of funding.  Most recently AHCHA has included this as a service that can be paid for by the Medicaid plans as fee for service.  Providers are required to back out any Medicaid or insurance reimbursed Mobil crises services from the payment by the Managing Entities.  So providers are not "eating the costs".
